Scottish School Leavers' Survey: Special Studies
The Centre for Educational Sociology (CES) has completed
several studies using data from the Scottish School Leavers Survey (SSLS)
(conducted by the National Centre for Social Research (NCSR) since 1993),
a nationally-representative survey of young people who have attended Scottish
schools. Information from the surveys includes young people’s family background,
qualifications, experiences at school from the age of 14, routes to further
education and training, and labour market destinations. The studies also
used data from the Scottish Young People’s Surveys (conducted bi-annually
by CES from 1977 to 1991), in order to study trends over time.
These were:
Study A: Entrants to Higher Education
Study B: High-Achieving Females
Study C: Low-Achieving Males
Study D+E: The Destinations of Early Leavers (these were combined and reported
as a single study, as they had many themes and data in common)
Young People Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)
Participation in Science, Engineering and Technology at School and in Higher
Education
