This new briefing is a five-page precis of Supporting Widening Participation Students in Three Scottish Universities, which is the report of a study by Cathy Howieson and Sarah Minty that investigated the experience of students from Widening Participation (WP) backgrounds in their first year of university study. It focussed on their awareness and use of the formal and informal support and the extent to which it meets their needs.

The study was commissioned as part of the Scottish Funding Council’s Impact for Access programme. The project was led by Heriot Watt University in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University and Queen Margaret University.
