Biographical details

Jenny Ozga is Professor of Educational Research and Director of CES, a position she took up in October 2000, when her predecessor, Professor David Raffe, became Dean of Research in the Moray House School of Education. (Professor Raffe’s research remains within CES). Before coming to CES Jenny Ozga was Professor of Education Policy and Dean of Social Sciences at Keele University.

 

Research

Jenny Ozga’s main research is in education policy, which includes research on policy-making as well as on specific areas of policy. It includes comparative policy studies; education and social policy; policy elites and policy communities, policy networks; the ‘Europeanisation’ of education policy, changing governance of education; and policy for the teaching profession. She also has strong interests in teachers’ work as a labour process, and in schooling and social capital and gender and educational management. She is series editor, with Professor Terri Seddon (Monash University) of the World Yearbook of Education.

 

Current and Recent Research

Current funded research includes work on Data and Education Governance in Scotland, England and Europe; on Knowledge and Policy in Europe, and on Discourses of Nationalism in Education Policy in Scotland.

2008-2009: Post-Enlargement Migration, Integration and Polish Nationals in Scotland (EU Marie Curie Fellowship) with Marie Curie Fellow and PI Dr Marta Moskal.
2008-2009: Education and Nationalism: the discourse of education policy in Scotland (ESRC) – (PI Dr Margaret Arnott, Glasgow Caledonian University).
2006-2011: Knowledge and Policy (FP6) – with Professor Martin Lawn, Dr Sotiria Grek, Farah Shaik, Irina Issakyan and Dr Richard Freeman, Dr Jen Smith and Dr Steve Sturdy (Department of Politics) (co-ordinators by Professor Bernard Delvaux and Dr Eric Mangez, Université Catholique de Louvain).
