PROGRESS: Progression Scenarios for National 4 and 5

Overview

A Research Project funded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)

Summary
The first cohort of secondary pupils to experience the full Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) will enter S1 in 2010. In 2013 they will enter S4, the first year of the ‘Senior Phase’ of CfE, and many of them will embark on new National 4 and 5 awards introduced to replace Standard Grades and Intermediate 1 and 2 courses. This project explores schools’ and colleges’ plans for the Senior Phase of Curriculum for Excellence in order to inform the SQA’s development and implementation of the new awards, and its revision of other awards. The project uses interviews, documentary evidence and participation at meetings and CfE events to tap the current thinking of the schools and colleges whose plans were most developed, with a particular interest in emerging models of curriculum and progression and how these might relate to the new awards.
Project dates
October 2009 - May 2010
