Trends in Secondary Education in Scotland, 1985-2005
Overview
A research project
funded by the Scottish Executive Education Department |
Background |
The study builds on the recent ESRC-funded project
Education and Youth Transitions in England, Wales and Scotland 1984-2002
(EYT) which constructed time-series datasets from the Scottish School
Leaver’s Surveys (SSLS) and England and Wales Youth Cohort studies
(YCS). The current Scottish time series covers cohorts of young people
who completed secondary schooling between 1984 and1998. The data are
longitudinal, and include young people’s experiences of school, post-compulsory
transitions and labour market up to age 18/19. |
Aims of the Research |
1. To extend the Scottish cohort time-series
created for the EYT project by deriving data from the 2003 and 2005
SSLS. 2. Using the Scottish cohort time-series, to analyse trends and inequalities in young people’s experience of secondary education and youth transitions. 3. To disseminate to findings of the analyses to the educational policy community. |
